As an advanced rider, you may be interested in learning additional methods of training and riding to improve your abilities and skill level. One of the traditional methods of training we offer at Ferrante Ranch is working the cow horse. Working cow horse is a type of competition which has recently become much more popular, especially among NHSRA sanctioned events. This form of riding has brought newfound interest among both teenagers and adults.
In the old days, horses were used to gather, doctor and move cattle on working cattle ranches by means of survival. While the modern day cowhorse may spend most of his time in the arena, the natural ability and desire to work cattle is in the breeding of most cutting and reined cow horses today. With the smart cow sense from traditional ranch horses combined with the style and athletic ability of the modern Quarter Horse, the reined cow horse is one of the most versatile and talented equine athletes. Even horses that are not bred to be a cow horse, have natural instincts to work and track cattle. We believe giving them a job and purpose of movement leads to a happier horse.
In addition to training horses, Ferrante Ranch also offers training services for you - whether you plan to show at a high level in the reined cow horse, or just want to know more about working around cattle, we can help. Our experienced trainers can provide you with training service and advice on how to build you and your horse's cow sense.
As your horse begins to learn and progress, they will slowly be introduced to more cows and taught the most effective ways to work with cattle. We have 150 years of combined experience in the field of training horses, riders, and trainers. You can trust that we use the utmost patience and care with every new horse or trainer we take on at our Southern California horse ranch.
